Auctung Report post Posted August 10, 2007 a few months ago I had the water temp running hot, replaced thermostat and all is good. Now I got hot oil regualry runs around 120 and when pushed a bit over at the track on one stint it was right at the yellow mark so I pulled it over to cool down. On local runs driving in the power band of 4-6k it breaks 120 also. Called Lambo of Ohio and they recomended switching from 10W40 blend to 20W50 Racing syntethic. Anyone have any experience with this and the results?? Its getting new oil next week, so hopefully the new weight, racing type, and being fully syn will fix it....if not may have to look into a GTR oil cooler maybe? Mike Report post Posted August 11, 2007 A different oil type and weight may help, but I'd bet theres a deeper problem. First make sure your gauge is correct. Diablos have been known for electrical gremlins in the insr.cluster. Bad grounds etc. If your gauge is correct, make sure your oil cooler is not partially blocked with debris. It sits in behind the drivers side lower rear vent. Make sure the vent itself is not blocked with something. We've never had a Diablo in the shop that has oil temp problems. I assume the water temp is normal. I also assume the oil level is correct.
Mike Report post Posted August 11, 2007 One more thought, Is all the shourding around the cooler there?
topcabron Report post Posted August 11, 2007 not even on the hottest days does the oil in my D reach 110.
Auctung Report post Posted September 8, 2007 changed the parts out today and it still seems to be running hot note its the oil temp gauge running around 120, not the water temp gauge, that is always between 80-90. The oil temp is the one all the way to the right. The cooler seems to be clear of debris, Ill try and check out the shrouds, anything I should be looking at here in particular?? Is it normal when cruising at 4000-4500 rpm in 3rd doing 80 for about 15 mins for the oil temp to get around 110-120?? or in 4th doing 100+ also between 4-5k rpm?? outside it was 80, so its not like its Arizona here. Ill post a pic here of it later, but if you look at the gague the big dashes are at 80 and 120, which I assume is where it should opperate, and a small dash after 120 that looks like 130. Overheating is at 150 with the yellow bar starting at what looks like 140-145ish
topcabron Report post Posted September 8, 2007 Are you using 10-40?
ab Report post Posted September 8, 2007 If your water temp is normal, I would question the oil temp gauge accuracy. I would think if your oil was getting hot due to the engine getting hot your water would also be getting hot. Stick your tongue on the exhaust pipe and if you burn your tongue, then there are some serious problems. (Maybe just not with the car). Auctung Report post Posted September 8, 2007 Are you using 10-40? Lambo of Ohio had me switch to 20w50 and its the Racing blend. Takes a few more mins for it to warm up, but seems to take abuse better, heck its racing oil, it better!!

Maybe this can help you. You have to buy a Raytek MiniTemp. (see photo) to point out the temperatur . Take a ride in your car, so that the engine gets hot. If you then point at your oilradiator and after that on your waterradiator the temperature should be the same, If it's okay, it's an electricial problem. You can also point point at the oilpibes above the exhaust and find the temperature there. See photo. ps when I turn on the popup lights the watertemp. rise from 80 to over a 100, it's an electrical problem something need to be grounded. After a long while of babing it till it warmed up, it stayed around 100-120 all the time. When I was breifly getting on it and keeping the revs higher (over 4k) it was always 110-120. Ill be going on a local meet this weekend where Ill be in 2nd with revs between 4-6k for most of the run. Last time I had troubles with the temps till I up shifted (thus falling outta the sweet RPM range) We shall see if it goes well or I still got problems. So far things are looking up though the water temp stayed between 80-90 the entire time too btw
